2008 Jeep Compass Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Rear Brake Caliper on 2008 Jeep Compass?
A: The first step is to hold the brake pedal with a tool that stops the pedal after one inch of travel, to keep the master cylinder from losing brake fluid when working on the brake caliper. After that, raise and brace the vehicle and take out the nuts attached to the three mountings and the rear tire and wheel. Loosen the nut at the brake tube on the rear flex hose, remove the clip holding the flex hose to the bracket and pulling out the flex hose from the bracket. Take out the brake flex hose from the brake caliper after unthreading it. Make sure you notice that only one of the bolts has an extra sleeve and this sleeve can be at the top or bottom depending on the car's build date. Because of this, you must reinstall the bolts so that they face the same direction as they were removed to prevent NVH. After removing the guide pin bolts, slide and remove the disc brake caliper with the outboard brake pad from the rotor, inboard brake pad and the adapter bracket. Then, open the brake pad retaining clip wide over the platform on the caliper to lift the brake pad and slide it off.
