2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Remove an Air Bag from the Passenger Side on 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: The passenger air bag is removed by first disabling the SRS by cutting off the negative battery cable and allowing the system capacitor to discharge for two minutes. Because you might come across irritants in the air bag, it's important to use rubber gloves, wear strong glasses and long sleeves. In case the air bag is not working properly but did not deploy, follow the manufacturer's instructions for non-deployed supplemental restraints. If the air bag has been used, look over the service procedure before taking it out for inspection. Turn off the battery by removing its negative cable and leave it for two minutes. The next thing to do is to remove the instrument panel from inside the car and set it down on a proper surface with its top pad facing down, so you don't harm its appearance if you need it again. First, press the Connector Position Assurance lock away from the connector, release the connector latch tab and pull the connector halves apart. Lift out the top pad after removing the screws that hold the air bag mounting bracket to the panel support. Eject the air bag housing from its retainer by pushing the place where the air bag hooks are attached into the door frame, while pulling up on the top edge. After finishing, lift the entire housing, inflator and cushion all at once out of the underside holder on the instrument panel pad.
