2008 Jeep Liberty A/C Clutch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace the A/C Clutch on a VISTEON Compressor on 2008 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before taking the compressor clutch assembly out and fitting a new one, unplug the negative battery cable. After that, take off the accessory drive belt. Pull the engine wire harness off the clutch field coil connector. Before clutch servicing, take out the bolts that secure the compressor to the mount, lift out the compressor while holding it. Secure the compressor shaft with a strap wrench and the bolt holding the clutch plate can be removed by hand or with a 1.25 mm x 8 mm bolt. Make sure every clutch plate shim is gone from the hub or end of the compressor shaft. If needed, remove the clutch plate and shim(s) using the 8 x 1.25 mm bolt which connects them to the compressor. Take the snap ring away from the front of the A/C compressor using snap ring pliers. The pulley and bearing assembly can either be disconnected by hand or with the use of a two jaw puller if necessary. Take out the screw that holds the clutch field coil wire bracket to the A/C compressor. Afterward, remove the clutch field coil using the compressor field coil remover and a two jaw puller from the front of the A/C compressor.
