2008 Jeep Wrangler Clock Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Clock Spring Assembly on 2008 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before working on the Clock Spring assembly, first turn off the SRS by unconnecting and insulating the battery's negative cable, then wait at least two minutes for the air bag system capacitor to empty and prevent accidental deployment. A service replacement Clock Spring is pre-centered with a locking pin made of molded plastic which must stay in place until the steering wheel is fitted; otherwise, the Clock Spring will need to be centered again. Straighten the steering wheel and lock it before you start the engine. If putting in a new Clock Spring, ensure the multifunction switch jumper harness is present either from the old unit or from a new one. Set the Clock Spring over the steering column shaft and plug in the three connectors found on the panel harness to the rear of the Clock Spring case. Center the Clock Spring over the lock housing and attach it by screwing three screws in order from lower right, upper left and upper right, fixing securely at 3 Nm (27 in. lbs.). After that, insert the left and right multifunction switches onto the Clock Spring and connect the upper and lower shrouds to the steering column. Lift the steering column to its highest point and secure it and afterwards, hook the steering wheel back into place. After that, get rid of the plastic locking pin from the Clock Spring rotor to ensure it remains centered and reattach the battery negative cable.
