2009 Jeep Wrangler Clock Spring Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Clock Spring Assembly on 2009 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable to disable the SRS before installing the Clock Spring assembly, then allow the system capacitor two minutes to discharge, so that accidental air bag deployment does not happen. The replacement Clock Spring comes centered and has a plastic locking pin that needs to remain in place until the steering wheel is installed; if you take it out before then, you'll need to re-center the Clock Spring. Make sure the steering wheel is in the direct center and is locked down before you get moving. For a new Clock Spring, place the multifunction switch jumper harness from the previous system or use a new one. Guide the Clock Spring up the steering shaft, then join the three connectors from the instrument panel wire harness to the case at the back. Put the Clock Spring onto the steering column lock housing and fasten it with three screws, upper right, lower right and upper left, tightening them all to 3 Nm (27 in. lbs.) to stop ticking noises while steering. Secure the left and right multifunction switches onto the Clock Spring and next attach the upper and lower shrouds to the steering column. Position the steering column all the way up and lock it and install the steering wheel. Release the Clock Spring rotor plastic pin and attach the negative battery cable.
