Q: How to Properly Install a Timing Cover and Its Components on 2008 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before installing the timing cover, take out the crankshaft oil seal so that the oil pump engages correctly. Clean the part of the chain case cover and cylinder block that meets the timing cover, making sure it's free from burrs and adhere a new gasket to the chain case cover, so the lower edge is 0.5 mm (0.020 in.) beyond the edge of the cover. Reverse the crankshaft so that the oil pump drive flats are upright, after which line up the inner rotor of the oil pump with the crankshaft drive flats to prevent serious harm. Bolts should be torqued in this order: 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) for M10 bolts and 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) for M8 bolts. Following that, put in the oil pan, place the front oil seal of the crankshaft and mount the crankshaft vibration damper. Change the oil filter (2) and place the oil pressure switch (1). Then, connect all the hoses for coolant, fit the camshaft position sensor (CMP), air conditioning compressor, tube for oil level check and lead the wire from the generator (3) to its designated place. Versum engine oil into the crankcase to the correct point, install the air cleaner housing and hose (1), complete the system by adding coolant and attach the negative cable to the battery.
