Before servicing the timing cover, first take off the accessory
Drive Belt and unplug the battery negative terminal. Following this, detach the accessory drive brackets from the timing case cover. Then take out the fan and hub assembly, along with the fan shroud. Should you have an A/C compressor, remove it and any other bracket assembly from the engine cylinder head and set the pieces aside. After that, remove the vibration damper and take out the timing case cover bolts and timing case cover from the cylinder block. Then, get rid of the timing case cover and its gasket. Take the front of the timing case cover off and pry the crankshaft oil seal out from inside. For installing both, make sure to first clean the gasket surfaces of the timing case cover,
Oil Pan and cylinder block. Remove the old seal from the timing case and install the new
Crankshaft Seal with the open side toward the timing case, while holding the cover at the seal area with Seal Installation Tool 6139 and pushing both into position. Lay the gasket over the cylinder block and afterwards rest the timing case cover on top of it and the oil pan gasket. Fit Timing Case Cover Alignment and Seal Installation Tool 6139 inside the opening of the crankshaft in the cover. Attach the timing case to the cylinder block and the oil pan to the timing case cover, using covers to block bolts tightened to 7 Nm (60 in. lbs.), 22 Nm (192 in. lbs.) on the front covers to block bolts and 9.5 Nm (84 in. lbs.) for the oil pan to cover bolts. After removing the cover alignment tool, coat the seal's vibration damper hub lightly with engine oil then install the vibration damper. Put the A/C compressor in place if it's needed and then connect the engine fan and hub assembly with the shroud. Put the accessory drive belt in place, adjust it to the right tension and only then reattach the negative cable to the battery.
