2009 Chrysler Aspen Crankshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Extract the Crankshaft from an Engine on 2009 Chrysler Aspen?
A: The engine must be taken out of the car before you can remove the crankshaft. Removing the engine from the vehicle comes first, then the engine oil pump stays next. Avoid disturbing the oil pan gasket while pulling out the oil pan, since the gasket is adhered to the block in three points and won't be removed. After that, take out the oil pan, then the oil pump pickup tube and the oil pan gasket/windage tray. Once the locating bolts are off, take out the bedplate mounting bolts and remember where each stud bolt should go. Take care when unbolting the connecting rods not to harm the specialist sealing area where the bedplate connects with the cylinder. As the bedplate contains the lower main bearing parts, be careful not to damage them while installing the crankshaft, since this may break the crankshaft. Relax the bed by using the correct pry points indicated on the bedplate. After that, take out the crankshaft, making sure the bearing surfaces are not harmed during removal.
