2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Service an Automatic Transmission Filter and Fluid on 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Make sure to have fluid and filter services done at the suggested times as described in your car's manual. During transmission oil change, use only Mopar® ATF+4 and remember to change the filter; do not forget to scrub the magnet with a clean, dry patch. If any components of the transaxle are taken apart, drain the fluid and change the filter. Install the vehicle on a hoist and choose a strong container for catching the oil that drips out of the transaxle. Loosen the bolts that hold the pan in place, give a tap to uncover one end so it falls out and then drain the fluid after removing the pan. Put a fresh filter (1) and O-ring (2) in the bottom of the valve body, wash the oil pan and magnet, apply new Mopar Silicone Adhesive sealant and secure the pan, tightening its bolts to 19 Nm (165 in. lbs.). Put four quarts of Mopar® ATF+4 into the dipstick opening, start the engine and idle it for at least one minute. After engaging both your parking and service brakes, shift the lever a little to each position and finish in park or neutral. Check how much transaxle fluid there is and add fluid until it lies between 3 mm (1/8 in.) and the lowest mark on the dipstick, then wait until your transaxle cools to 82°C (180°F) and check the fluid level once more. Screw the dipstick right into the tube to stop dirt from getting to the transaxle. With the dipstick tube fluid suction, be sure the transaxle is fully warm, choose an appropriate suction device and place the suction line inside the dipstick tube, stopping when the lowest part of the transaxle oil pan is reached for total fluid evacuation. Empty the fluid by following the manufacturer's instructions, pull the suction line, fill the engine with four quarts of Mopar® ATF+4 oil through the dipstick hole, start the engine, check the fluid level and be sure the dipstick is right in place.
