2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser Torque Converter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Torque Converter on 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: The first step for installing the torque converter is checking the converter hub and drive notches for sharp edges, burrs, scratches or nicks and polishing them with 320/400 grit paper or crocus cloth if necessary to provide a smooth surface which will not damage the pump seal on installation. Transmission fluid lubricates converter hub and oil pump seal lip, torque converter should be placed on transmission. Be careful not to damage the oil pump seal or bushing as you put the torque converter into the front of the transmission. Open the oil pump up seal and insert the hub into the oil pump in alignment with the torque converter. Pinch the converter and push it in, while rotating it fully into the oil pump gears. With a scale and straightedge, check the converter seating into the converter seats during conversion - the surface of the converter lugs should be 1/2 inch rear of the straightedge when fully seated. If required, a C clamp can be temporarily used to secure the converter to the housing. Place the transmission in the vehicle and then fill it with the recommended fluid.
