2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser CV Boot Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a CV Boot on 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: You should start by taking out the assembly that needs to have the boot replaced. Then, remove the large clamp that holds the bottom sealing boot onto the CV joint housing and the smaller clamp that comes with the top sealing boot around the outboard CV joint housing. Unscrew the boot from the outer CV housing and move it down the Axle Shaft. With grease removed, you will be able to see the outer CV joint and the interconnecting shaft underneath. Safely hold the interconnecting shaft in a vise with caps to avoid damage, then firmly tap the end of the CV housing and see it fly off the circlip inside the shaft with a hamper. Pull the outer CV joint off its end of the interconnecting shaft, hitting it lightly if it sticks. Slide off the sealing boot after first getting rid of the large circlip from the interconnecting shaft. In addition, the outside CV joint and connecting joint must be carefully examined and cleaned, as you should look for excessive use on any part; if any signs of wear are found, the entire halfshaft assembly needs to be changed, given that replacing parts in a halfshaft assembly is not possible.
