2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser CV Boot Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace a CV Boot on a Drive Shaft on 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before putting in a new inner boot for the drive shaft, take out the halfshaft. After that, unclip and remove the big clamp for the sealing boot on the joint housing and throw away the smaller clamp for the boot on the shaft. Take off the seal boot from the tripod housing and lower it down the shaft that goes through. Grasp the rollers tightly as you unclip the spider joint from the tripod joint housing so they don't fall. Remove the group formed by the spider assembly and the interconnecting shaft from the tripod housing. Take out the snap ring that holds the spider assembly to the interconnecting shaft, then disconnect the spider assembly from the Axle Shaft. If the spider assembly won't come off, try tapping it out with a brass drift and avoid hitting the outer tripod bearings. Slide off the sealing boot at the end of the interconnecting shaft and thoroughly examine and clean the spider assembly, tripod joint housing and the Axle Shaft for signs of too much wear. If any part looks worn, you should change the entire halfshaft assembly, as the pieces in it can't be replaced.
