2009 Dodge Caliber Crankshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Extract the Crankshaft from an Engine Assembly on 2009 Dodge Caliber?
A: Before removing the crankshaft, you should take the engine out of the vehicle. After that, take out the flex plate and remove the crankshaft rear oil seal. Stand the engine on a support and take off the engine lift chain. Remove the engine oil and take off the oil filter as well. Remove next the crankshaft vibration damper, the water pump pulley and the engine mount support bracket. The timing chain should be removed after you remove the oil pan and cover. Following that, remove the balance shaft module and the crankshaft sprocket. After removing the bolt that holds the crankshaft sensor, take the sensor off and take out the ladder frame as well. Replacing either the piston or connecting rod means you have to take off the cylinder head. To prevent damage, don't stamp connecting rods; instead, mark each cap with a permanent ink or paint marker for the cylinder number. Take out all bolts and caps in the connecting rod without harming the fracture rod and cap. Also, do not use connecting rod bolts a second time. In the end, take out the main bearing caps and lift the crankshaft carefully from the cylinder block.
