2010 Dodge Caliber Crankshaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Extract the Crankshaft from an Engine Assembly on 2010 Dodge Caliber?
A: The crankshaft can be removed only after the engine is removed from the vehicle and the transaxle is separated as well. After that, take out the flex plate/flywheel (1) and the crankshaft rear oil seal. Following this, the engine is taken off cradle 6710A (11) and laid on a trustworthy repair stand. Take out the engine oil (2) and the oil filter (1). Along with that, the crankshaft vibration damper (2), water pump pulley (3), engine mount support bracket (1) and oil pan (2) must also be taken out. After that, the timing chain cover must be taken off to reach the timing chain. You need to take out the balance shaft module and crankshaft sprocket (1) before removing the sensor (2) by taking out the sensor's retaining bolt (1). You need to remove the ladder frame too. When piston/connecting rod replacement is needed, the cylinder head should come off. Avoid stamping or punching the connecting rods with a number; instead, use a durable ink or paint pen to stamp the number of each cylinder on them and their caps. Take out all connecting rod bolts and their caps without harming the inside of the fracture rod and cap and avoid using these bolts again. In the end, take off the main bearing caps and lift out the crankshaft, being sure not to harm the main bearings or journals.
