2009 Dodge Caliber Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Parking Brake Cable on 2009 Dodge Caliber?
A: Before you begin, make sure to detach and remove the battery negative cable. Always block your tire and wheel assemblies so that the vehicle won't move after you release the parking brake lever. Take out the center console and pull the lever for the parking brake down. Relax the nut on the output lever and take the parking brake cables off the cable equalizer. To get to the rear parking brake cables, take off the rear seat cushion and move the back carpet up towards the front. Attach a 1/2 inch (13 mm) wrench to the retainer, then collapse it with your wrench and pull the cable housing from the bracket. Lift up the vehicle, take out the wheel mounting nuts and take off both the rear tire and wheel assembly. First, simulate the parking brake, then remove the parking brake shoes and secure the hairpin from the parking brake cable. Disconnect the cable from both locations on the support plate and the trailing link, remove the screw holding the cable clamp to the body and remove the clamp nut from the fuel tank strap. In the end, grab the parking brake cable with the sealing grommet and disconnect it by pushing the cable through the hole in the floor pan.
