2009 Dodge Dakota Thermostat Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Thermostat for a 3.7L/4.7L Engine on 2009 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before installing the engine coolant thermostat for the 3.7L/4.7L, clear dirt and other material from the mating parts on the timing chain cover and thermostat housing. Put the thermostat into the timing chain cover, spring side down and then fit the housing over top of it. Hold everything in place by bolting both sides of the timing chain cover, tighten them to 13 Nm and check that the housing is secured evenly and the thermostat rests in the center, refusing to twist or cause damage. Then, place the lower radiator hose into the thermostat housing, set the splash shield in place and lower the car. Fill the coolant tank, put the battery's negative cable back and let the engine warm up, looking for any leaks as it does.
