2009 Dodge Durango A/C Clutch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the A/C Clutch on 2009 Dodge Durango?
A: Initially, get the negative battery cable disconnected and make sure it is safely not connected. Take the air intake hose out of the air filter housing and resonator. Half-drain the engine cooling system, separate the upper radiator hose from the radiator and place the part where it will not be in the way. Get rid of the radiator fan and shroud and next take off the accessory drive belt. Separate the engine wire harness at its connection with the compressor clutch coil coil placed on the top of the A/C compressor. Gently take out the compressor clutch coil connector and wire lead from their positions on the connector bracket. Hold the clutch plate still with a band-type or strap wrench as you remove the shaft bolt from the compressor. Do not push anything between the clutch plate and the pulley and bearing assembly to protect the clutch plate. Do not toss any clutch shim(s) during removal, because you might need them again for installation. Tap the clutch plate gently with a plastic mallet to get it off the splines on the compressor shaft and then take out the plate and shim(s). Place 9764 A/C Snap Ring Pliers (or equivalent) over the snap ring that holds the pulley and bearing assembly to the front of the A/C compressor, release the snap ring and remove the pulley and bearing assembly from the compressor. The last step is to use A/C Snap Ring Pliers 9764 or substitutes to remove the snap ring locking the compressor clutch coil and remove the coil.
