2009 Dodge Journey Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Booster on 2009 Dodge Journey?
A: You should pump the brake pedal 4 or 5 times with the engine shut off to remove the vacuum from the vacuum brake booster before working on it. Disconnect the battery cable carrying a minus sign and set it aside. Pull out the push-pins securing the top screen ends, then take out the others and remove the top cowl screen. After that, take off the wiper arms. Twist the push-pins attaching the cowl screen to the wheelhouse brace counterclockwise, then rotate the center screw 90° to the right to remove the screen. Remove the eight bolts fastening the wheelhouse brace to the strut towers and pull out the wheelhouse brace. The next step is to get rid of the master cylinder. Take apart the rear brake tubes at the center block and install plugs into every open brake tube. Pull the vacuum hose back from the check valve on the power brake booster without taking out the check valve. If you notice the silencer pad, slide it out from beneath the steering column opening cover. Take off the stop lamp switch and don't use it again, only if the vehicle is from an earlier model year before July 21, 2008. With a small screwdriver, turn the clip tang near the brake pedal so that the retaining clip comes off; then, set this clip aside. Slide the end of the booster push rod off the brake pedal pin and take off the four nuts that connect the booster to the dash panel. Pull the booster forward, so the mounting studs go back a bit, then remove it from back of the engine compartment.
