2009 Dodge Journey Piston Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Piston's Connecting Rod on 2009 Dodge Journey?
A: Remove the cylinder heads and the oil pan as the first step for taking out the connecting rod. Make sure you cover the tops of the pistons with the valves and use a trusted ridge reamer to take off the cylinder bores' tops just before removing the pistons. You should center each connecting rod inside the cylinder bore by rotating the crankshaft which allows you to remove the pistons and connecting rods from the top of the cylinder block. Check the connecting rods and accompanying caps to identify the cylinder number and then mark them using paint or a scribe. Take the connecting rod cap off, use protectors on the connecting rod and then push each piston and rod assembly out of the cylinder bore, not touching the crankshaft journals with anything. Installing the bearing cap on the rod is the step you do after removing the shaft.
