2009 Dodge Nitro Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Service an Air Bag Sensor with the SRS Disabled on 2009 Dodge Nitro?
A: The front impact sensor can only be serviced safely if you disable the SRS and the best way to do that is by disconnecting the negative battery cable, waiting two minutes while the air bag system capacitor discharges and then reconnecting the cable again. For a safe lens, do not hit or drop the front impact sensor; even tiny damage or a loss of calibration requires a new one. It is possible to switch the front and side impact sensors without issue. First, take out the battery negative cable and give the system capacitor time to discharge. For the proper right front impact sensor, remove the air filter housing for access; for the left front sensor, lift the vehicle, put it on stands and take out the access plug from the front of the left front wheel house liner. Remove the nut that secures the front impact sensor to the back of the front end module carrier direct below and close to the park/turn signal lamp socket. Unplug one of the jumper wires from either the front impact sensor receptacle or the body wire harness and next take out the front impact sensor from the engine compartment.
