How to Install an Air Bag for Side Curtains on 2009 Dodge Nitro?

Begin by turning off the Supplemental Restraint System by detaching and isolating the negative battery cable and then give the air bag system capacitor two minutes to discharge. Always use gloves, safety glasses and a shirt covering your forearms because the air bag unit may contain substances that can irritate your skin. Do not allow any foreign object to get inside the side curtain air bag, nor let anything remain caught between the air bag cushion and the headliner. The side-curtain air bag should be placed as a single unit in the car and the unit should engage with a plastic fastener at the rear that keeps the air bag secured on the inner roof rail. Slide the air bag under the grab handle bracket above the rear door opening, inside on the inner roof rail and press the front plastic fastener into place. Set the curtain air bag tether metal key into the base of the inner A-pillar and fix it with a push-in fastener. Put the side curtain air bag mounting tabs and the inflator bracket on the seven studs on the inner side of the roof rail. Tighten them with the seven nuts to 8 Nm (71 in. lbs.). Plug the jumper wire harness into the body wire harness connector of the side curtain air bag fitted into the area between the belt line and inner D-pillar, then snap the routing clip inside the D-pillar to install the jumper wire harness. Replace the headliner in the car, but do not connect back the negative battery cable until the SRS verification process is done after any work on the SRS parts has been completed.
