2009 Dodge Nitro Windshield Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How Is a Windshield Installed on 2009 Dodge Nitro?
A: Open a window out or back before closing doors or swing gates, as urethane should be fully cured to keep water from getting inside your vehicle. Avoid getting urethane or primers on all painted and trimmed areas. Clear any old urethane bonding from the top edge of the windshield and check that support spacers are set and properly screwed into the bottom weld studs on the window frame. Set the new windshield over the opening and center it, holding it firmly against the support spacers then mark its edges with a pen at the spacers. With two blocks, 10 centimeters by 10 centimeters by 50 centimeters, positioned 75 centimeters apart, position the windshield, facing up, on a suitable work surface. Inside the windshield, clean with the Mopar(R) Glass Cleaner and a cloth without lint, then add clear glass primer 25 mm around the edge; wipe it off with a clean, dry lint-free cloth. Then, use a black-out primer to cover the top and sides with 15 mm and the bottom with 25 mm, but don't forget to let it dry for three minutes. Line up the spacers along the windshield edge, put the dot on the upper molding above the tick on the glass and install the upper molding. Coat the inside molding with a 10 mm line of urethane, adding a second line in the same spot at the bottom.' Prime all around the windshield frame opening, leaving 18 minutes or more for the primer to dry. Get help to place the windshield over the opening, matching the marks on the reference points with the spacers below and carefully guide the glass into the windshield opening fence, moving the top molding into position as needed and inward against the bottom fence spacers until it is flush with the roofline. Using Mopar(R) Super Clean or the like, wipe away any additional urethane found on the vehicle. First, install the A-pillar molding, then the clips and lastly, the push pin. Put the cowl grille in its spot, then grip the bottom of the windshield and push the clips up. After that, set the push pins through the cowl into the car body and the hood seal. The wiper arms and rear view mirror should be put into place last. Gently spray some water over the windshield after the urethane has cured to ensure the damage was fixed properly.
