2009 Dodge Ram 3500 Air Bag Parts and Q&A
- Q: How to Safely Remove and Replace a Driver Air Bag on 2009 Dodge Ram 3500?A: First turn off the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) by detaching and isolating the negative battery cable, then let the system capacitor discharge for two minutes. Always remember to protect yourself with gloves, eye gear and a long-sleeved shirt because air bag surfaces may contain irritants. Take out the two screws located underneath the steering wheel which hold the driver air bag to the steering wheel armature. Never tug on the horn switch feed pigtail wire to stop any damage to the horn switch membrane or circuit. Pull the air bag gently so that the electrical connections on the back of the housing are visible. Disconnect the horn switch wire harness connector from the horn switch feed pigtail wire connector fastened to the back of the air bag housing, taking care not to damage either the air bag circuits or the Clock Spring wires. The integral latches on both sides of the Clock Spring driver air bag pigtail wire connector insulators allow you to pull the insulators out of the air bag inflator to disconnect them. When you are finished, remove the driver air bag from the car's steering wheel. After deploying the driver air bag, please change the Clock Spring and look over the steering column.
