2009 Dodge Viper Timing Chain Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove the Timing Chain and Sprockets on 2009 Dodge Viper?
A: The first thing to do when removing the timing chain and sprockets is to take off the timing chain cover. After that, take out the bolts and then the camshaft drive plate. Rotate the crankshaft so that the timing marks are in line and after that, take out the bolt that holds the camshaft sprocket or phaser in place. Then remove the timing chain and the entire sprocket/phaser assembly. To take out the crankshaft sprocket, place insert 8194 at the end of the crankshaft and coat it with wheel bearing grease or something similar. You should apply Mopar Nickel Anti-seize Compound or something equal on the threads of bearing puller 5048 before starting to remove the crankshaft sprocket. Following that, use crankshaft sprocket puller 9056A and bearing puller 5048 to remove the crankshaft sprocket.
