2009 Dodge Viper Piston Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Piston's Connecting Rod on 2009 Dodge Viper?
A: First, you should remove the engine, take out the cylinder heads and take out the oil pan to access the rod and replace it. After that, remove the swinging oil pump pick-up tube assembly and the crankshaft oil scraper. You should never mark the connecting rods with a metal punch or with a screwdriver. Make sure that the connecting rods and caps are cleared for rod identification and stamp each with an etching tool, indelible ink or paint marker, making sure not to harm the broken ends of the rod and cap at the point of fracture. Open the connecting rod bolts and remove their cap, then carefully push the piston and rod group out of the block being careful not to damage the crank or cylinder walls. Following removal, install the bearing cap onto the mating rod.
