2009 Jeep Commander Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service the Air Bag Control Module on 2009 Jeep Commander?
A: Service of the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) begins with disconnecting and isolating the battery negative cable, then allowing two minutes to pass so that the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is disabled and there is no risk of the air bags deploying by accident. It's necessary to be careful with the ORC and not strike or drop it to prevent damage to the impact sensor that may require replacing the module. First, lift out the center console from its place on the floor panel transmission tunnel. You should then release both the instrument panel and body wire harness connectors from the ORC plugs by pushing the red lock to its front position, depressing it and pulling the connectors straight out. Take out the three screws that hold the ORC to the mount and unfasten the ORC from the top transmission tunnel.
