2009 Jeep Commander Clock Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove the Clock Spring Assembly on 2009 Jeep Commander?
A: Before you try to remove the Clock Spring assembly, disconnect the black terminal of the battery to shut off the Supplemental Restraint System, then wait two minutes so the system's capacitor can discharge. Make sure you align the steering wheel forward and lock the steering so it doesn't rotate when lifted. Take the steering wheel off the shaft, attaching the rotor from the Clock Spring to the Clock Spring case if you want to reuse it for proper centering. Reduce the steering column to the bottom setting and take out the upper and lower shrouds. Rise the right multi-function switch from its location on the Clock Spring, then the left, too. First, loosen the screw holding the Clock Spring face to the bracket and afterward remove the two screws holding the back of the Clock Spring in place. Once done, pull the Clock Spring from the column and separate the instrument panel's three wiring connectors from behind the Clock Spring.
