2009 Jeep Commander Parking Assist Distance Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Parking Assist Distance Sensor on 2009 Jeep Commander?
A: The first thing to do with the Parking Assist Distance Sensor is to isolate the negative cable connected to the battery. You can change the park assist sensors and the sensor spacers by themselves, as the sensor brackets are built into the back of the rear bumper fascia. The rear bumper fascia has to be off the vehicle to access the two inboard rear park assist sensors, but the two outboard ones are accessible with the fascia installed. Remove the wire harness from the connector on the park assist sensor receptacle at the fascia's back. Work the bracket latch away from the top and bottom edges of the sensor and after disengaging the bracket, separate the spacer from the sensor membrane's projection around its edge.
