2009 Jeep Commander Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the Left Camshaft on 2009 Jeep Commander?
A: First, rub clean engine oil over the camshaft journals and put the camshaft in the left cylinder head so that the camshaft sprocket dowel stands near 1 o'clock. Then, put the camshaft into the cylinder head, attach each camshaft bearing cap by hand and secure the retaining bolts, so the cap numbers go from the front to the rear, with the stamped arrows facing the front. First tighten the bolts on the middle cap, then move outward and fasten all bearing caps to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.) each. Fit the camshaft drive gear to the timing chain, bringing the V6 mark between the two chain links with marks. Rotate the Camshaft Holder 8428A while watching the dowel on the camshaft sprocket, then line up the dowel with the slot in the camshaft sprocket and set the sprocket onto the shaft. Uncover any excess oil coating from the camshaft sprocket bolt to avoid applying too much force and possible failure and afterward, tighten down and secure the retaining bolt without using a torque wrench. Once the Wedge Locking Tool 8379 is out, screw the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt to 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.) with Spanner Wrench 6958 and adapter pins 8346. Installing the cylinder head cover should be your final step.
