2009 Jeep Liberty Battery Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How Are Battery Cables Installed on 2009 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before installing the battery cables, make sure you remove any metal jewelry so you don't get hurt by accidental arcing. Put the battery cables in the engine compartment, then press in the pushpins, fasteners and routing clips one at a time until the cables are where they were originally. Connect the negative battery cable (8) to the engine block stud (2) and tighten it with the retaining nut (1). Remove the E/M cover (6) from the back of the motor housing. Connect the positive battery cable to the B+ starter motor terminal and attach it using the retaining nut which should be tightened to 13 Nm or 115 in. lbs. After that, join the positive battery cable (2) to terminal B+ (5) of the generator and secure it with the retaining nut (1) to 14 Nm (125 in. lbs.). attach the positive cable of the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) to the mounting stud (3), add the retaining nut (1), tighten it to 9 - 11 Nm (80 - 100 in. lbs.) and then close the cover (4) of the TIPM. Slide the routing clips of the battery cable assembly assembly into the inner fender, locate the negative battery cable (6) over the hold-down stud (7) and fasten it in place by tightening the hold-down stud to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.). You should connect the battery's positive cable (1) and tighten it to 5 Nm (45 in. lbs.) and then attach the negative cable (2) and tighten its cable clamp nut to the same tension of 5 Nm (45 in. lbs.).
