2009 Jeep Wrangler Battery Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain Battery Cables on 2009 Jeep Wrangler?
A: To work with battery cables, first remove any metal jewelry because arcing of the battery might injure you. Since the positive and negative terminals have different locations on gasoline and diesel engines, it's important to pay attention to them before doing any battery or component service. In case of left-hand drive gasoline cars, the procedure is the same for left-hand drive diesel vehicles, while on right-hand cars both types have their battery on the left side of the engine area. Loose the pinch clamp bolt first on the negative cable (8) and then loosen it on the positive cable (4) to disconnect the battery clamps. Then, unscrew nut (12) from the Totally Integrated Power Module mounting stud and remove the cable (11) from the same stud. After that, remove the nut holding the negative cable to the fender (3) and pull the cable (2) away from the stud. Separate the cable assembly (5) routing clips (6) from the mounting studs (7). Lift up the battery cable nut (1) from the B+ terminal and then remove the cable from the generator. Take the battery cable off from the B+ terminal on the starter motor (1) and the negative cable from the engine block ground. At the end, remove any remaining battery terminal pushpins, fasteners and routing clips until the cables are no longer connected to your vehicle and then pull the battery cables from your engine.
