2009 Jeep Wrangler Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Service and Install an Air Bag Sensor on 2009 Jeep Wrangler?
A: First, turn off the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) which is supervised by the front impact sensor, by taking off the negative battery cable and waiting two minutes for the system capacitor to release energy. Avoid any impacts or falls to the front impact sensor, since it may lead to damage or problems if it breaks and in such a case you will have to install a new unit. The front and side impact sensors can be switched and will function the same. Insert the front impact sensor on the right or left front side of the engine compartment and put the wire harness connector from the engine compartment into the sensor's receptacle. Slide the sensor over to the back of the front-end module carrier inboard elaborating the right or left headlamp and verify the anti-rotation hole on the sensor is fitted in the clearance hole of the carrier. Install and tighten the screw on the sensor to 8 Nm (70 in. lbs.). You should not repower the negative battery cable until the last of the SRS verification tests after servicing is complete.
