Q: How is a Crankshaft Installed in an Engine on 2009 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Apply engine oil to the crankshaft studs, then drop in the crankshaft main bearing halves into the engine block. Set the crankshaft (11) into the engine block and perform the main bearing fitting as described. Look at the main cap bolts to check for stretching (2) and switch out any that show signs of stretching; use a scale or straight edge (2) to measure bolt length by touching the thread tops (3) to see if they all meet the edge (2). Attach the main bearing caps (1,2,3,5) with their bolts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.), tightening them 1/4 turn further and put the new cross bolt assembly upon reassembly. Make sure the new cross bolts and washer assemblies (8) are tightened to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Drop the connecting rod and bearing caps on the crankshaft and afterward install the rear oil seal for the crankshaft. After that, install the crankshaft sprocket, then set in the timing chain and camshaft sprocket. Now slip on the timing chain cover, then fit in the oil pick-up tube and the oil pan. Finally, install the main engine components.
