How to Safely Detach a Drive Shaft on 2009 Jeep Wrangler?

Be sure the vehicle is secure in neutral and on a hoist before removing the drive shaft. Place an installation reference line across the rear propeller shaft CV joint and the axle flange and indicate where the propeller shaft axle will be-the shaft can be installed either way. Afterward, place an imaginary line going across the front propeller shaft CV joint and the transmission/transfer case flange, along with including an indicator for the transmission/transfer case flange end of the propeller shaft. Remove the propeller shaft CV joint bolts and retainers from the front and the rear. Compress the propeller shaft enough that the two flanges come apart from it.
