2010 Dodge Avenger Clock Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Clock Spring Assembly on 2010 Dodge Avenger?
A: Before beginning, unhook and separate the battery negative cable to turn off the supplemental restraint system. Next, allow the system capacitor two minutes to drain so that air bags do not deploy unexpectedly. A service replacement Clock Spring is pre-aligned with a plastic locking pin that is meant to stay in place until the steering wheel is fitted; taking the pin out before that will require realigning the Clock Spring. Lock the steering wheel straight and make sure the car's steering is locked before you start. First, take out the negative battery cable and afterwards remove the steering wheel from the steering shaft. While holding in the Clock Spring, make sure to secure the rotor to the case and maintain centering because the steering wheel isn't on yet. Lower the steering column all the way down and take out the upper and lower shrouds. After that, take off the right multi-function switch from the Clock Spring and also unhook the left multi-function switch. Take out the three screws linking the Clock Spring to the lock housing, pull the Clock Spring off the steering column and remove each wire harness connector from the back of the case before you remove the Clock Spring unit.
