  A: The first step in A/C expansion valve maintenance is to disconnect and isolate the battery's negative cable. Recover the refrigerant from the system in your fridge. Following that, remove the nuts holding the heat shield to the studs and then completely remove the heat shield. Disconnect the bolt that fixes the A/C liquid and suction line assembly to the A/C expansion valve and then separate the assembly from the valve and throw out the O-rings. Discharge unseats the quick-release bolts securing the A/C expansion valve to the evaporator tube tapping block and remove the valve from the block. After that, insert plugs into or cover all opened refrigerant fittings and the ports of expansion valves and evaporators with tape.
