2010 Dodge Caliber Evaporator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain an Evaporator for Optimal Performance on 2010 Dodge Caliber?
A: Before working on the A/C evaporator, take off the HVAC housing assembly from the vehicle and put it on a workbench. After that, take out the two bolts holding the A/C expansion valve (1) to the A/C evaporator and remove the valve. Get rid of the O-ring seals and put covers or tape onto the gaps in your expansion valve and evaporator tube. Should the foam seal or plastic flange be deformed or damaged, you have to change them. To remove (2) from (3), pull the plastic (flange) off after you've carefully loosened the tabs at the flange's back end. Make sure you remove all sealer that remains on the flange of the front section of the HVAC housing halves. After that, carefully remove the air distribution housing (2) from the HVAC housing (1). Grab the attachment point (2) for the evaporator temperature sensor (3) with your needle nose pliers (1) and release both retaining clips to lift out the sensor. If the insulator foam around your A/C evaporator is not in good shape, it needs to be changed. Carefully lift up on the evaporator (1) so that its end tips back and remove it from the back area of the HVAC housing (2).
