2010 Dodge Challenger Timing Belt Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Timing Belt on 2010 Dodge Challenger?
A: The first thing to do when replacing the timing belt is to unplug the battery cable from the negative terminal. Then, remove the belt cover in the front and draw a mark on the belt to show its movement. Turn the crankshaft and adjust the timing until all timing marks match or damage to the valves and pistons may result. Spin the engine until, when at TDC, the crankshaft mark matches the TDC mark on the oil pump housing and the camshaft sprocket timing marks are with the marks on the rear cover. First, release the tensioner and then take out the timing belt. Make sure the tensioner is sealed and the bolt doesn't leak and that the pivot and bolt move freely and without grease leaking; if the assembly doesn't rotate properly, replace both arm and pulley. As you remove the tensioner from the engine, make sure to press the plunger into the tensioner body and place it in the vise in the same way it sits on your vehicle. Route the tensioner into a vise and go slowly compressing the plunger until total bleed down lasts around two minutes. Once you've pressed the plunger inside the tensioner, pass a pin through the body and plunger to secure the plunger until you install the tensioner.
