2010 Jeep Liberty Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What Precautions Are Necessary Before Servicing the Air Bag Sensor in the C-Pillar on 2010 Jeep Liberty?
A: Always begin side impact sensor C-pillar servicing by disabling the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) through disconnecting and isolating the negative battery cable, then wait for two minutes for the air bag system capacitor to discharge. Not taking these precautions may cause the air bag to activate by mistake which could be very dangerous. Never strike or drop the side impact sensor, since it could become broken or misaligned; designed to protect the side air bags, a new sensor is needed if one is dropped. The front and side impact sensors can both be installed at any point on the sensor cluster. Take off the negative battery bolt first and give time for the system capacitor to drain. After that, take out the lower trim from the inside face of the right or left C-pillar. After that, take out the bolt that holds the side impact sensor to the lower C-pillar weld stud and get the sensor off the inner C-pillar weld stud. Disconnect the wire connector from the side impact sensor's plug in the main harness wiring.
