Q: What is the correct method to install a Piston Ring Set on 2010 Jeep Wrangler?
A: If you can see a manufacturers I.D. mark, place the piston rings with that side facing up toward the top of the piston. Install the oil ring expander first, then put on the lower oil ring side rail, then the upper oil ring side rail, after which add the No. 2 intermediate piston ring and last the No. 1 upper piston ring. If you're installing the side rail, fit the end of the rail between the piston ring groove and the expander and hold it securely as you press it in place. Do not use the piston ring expander for this purpose. The lower side rail should be installed before the upper side rail. After that, fit the No. 2 piston ring and then place the No. 1 piston ring. Place the spark plug piston ring gaps so they are not on the piston pin or the thrust side, while setting the oil ring expander gap (5) at least 45° from the side rail gaps (1, 4).
