The first step is to clean the cylinder bore and then put the
Piston ring in, using the piston to force it down and make it square inside. Put a feeler gauge into the cylinder bore 12 mm (0.50 inch) from the bottom to find the ring gap and check the piston ring to groove clearance goes as specified. Assemble the rings with their manufacturers I.D. marks facing upward on the piston so that the oil ring expander is in the midst, followed by the upper oil ring side rail, the lower oil ring side rail, the No. 2 intermediate piston ring and the No. 1 upper piston ring. One end of the side rail should go between the piston ring groove and the expander and secure it with your hand before pressing down to fit it without a piston ring expander. Apply the upper side rail first, the lower side rail after and install No. 2 piston ring and No. 1 piston ring next. Align the piston ring gaps well and don't space the oil ring expander stiffener more than 45° from the side rail gaps, keeping it away from the piston pin center or thrust direction.
