The first step in servicing the Air Bag Control Module is to unhook and isolate the negative
Battery Cable, letting the air bag system reserve capacitor discharge for about two minutes before doing anything else. Take out the center floor console and cut off two electrical connectors. Slide the sound deadening material aside as required to open the area with the mounting screws and remove the three screws holding the ORC. Take care not to damage the attachment location while installing the ORC and after positioning, tighten the three screws until they reach 11 N.m (97 in.lbs.). Deaden the sound in your car by installing the material again, attaching the two electric cable connectors and fitting the
Center Console. Connecting the negative battery connector before doing the air bag test may result in serious harm or death to the person performing it. It is important to replace the Occupant Classification Module and the Occupant Restraint Controller separately, since doing them together may cause serious problems and put passengers at risk of injury.
