Chrysler Aspen Heater Core Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How is the Heater Core Installed on Chrysler Aspen?
    A:
The tubes in the heater core should be unruffled before you start installing, to avoid coolant leaks and injury. Put the heater core (6) into the top of the HVAC housing (3) and see that the heater core insulator is correctly placed. Place two screws (4) through the heater core and into the retaining bracket (5) inside the HVAC housing, tightening each one to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Then, fix the HVAC housing bracket (2) to the top of the HVAC housing using two screws (1) which should be tightened to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Attach the heater tube retaining bracket (4) to the top of the HVAC housing (2) and tighten it with a screw to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Set the foam seal on the flange of the HVAC housing and then fit the air inlet housing to the HVAC housing with screws, while making sure the HVAC wire harness retainer is installed correctly. Link the harness to the recirculation door actuator (3) using the wire slots. Set up the HVAC housing at the front, return the negative battery cable to its place and if installing a new heater core, clean the cooling system. Put liquid in the engine cooling system, empty the refrigerant system and add refrigerant as required.
  • Q: How to Safely Remove and Service a Heater Core on Chrysler Aspen?
    A:
Before you service or fix the heater core, first cut off the air bag system by removing and isolating the negative battery cable and wait two minutes until the air bag system capacitor empties. Heater core tubes are meant to be positioned, loosened or removed only if a new heater core part is required, so coolant leakage can be avoided. Take out the front HVAC housing and put it on a workbench to work on it. Remove the HVAC wire harness from the recirculation door actuator. Open up the screws that fasten the air inlet housing to the main HVAC casing and then pull the air inlet housing out. Remove the foam seal from the flange inside the HVAC unit, changing it if necessary because of damage. After that, remove the screw that holds the heater core tube retaining bracket onto the top of the HVAC housing and pull out the bracket. Unscrew the HVAC housing retaining bracket from the top housing and then remove it too. Ultimately, take out the screws that hold the heater core retaining bracket onto the top of the HVAC housing, get rid of the bracket and very carefully remove the heater core and tubes as one whole unit from the housing above.
