For
Piston ring service, first bring out the pistons and connecting rods without relying on pliers for the oil scraper ring which you have to handle by hand. When cleaning pistons, take off the piston rings using piston ring pliers. If there are deposits in the ring grooves, first use a groove cleaner or a broken ring to remove them, then look at the piston pin openings and skirts to see if there is heat scoring or distortion and replace the pistons as needed. When installing, measure the open space with the bottom rings in place and ensure Ring # 1 is between 0.20 mm and 0.35 mm while Ring # 2 is between 0.20 mm and 0.40 mm. The vertical clearance of the piston rings should be checked next, with Ring # 1 measuring from 0.012 mm to 0.060 mm and Ring # 2 from 0.010 mm to 0.030 mm. When installing, first place Ring 1 on the piston, then the upper Rail, Ring 2 and Expander ring, with Ring 1 on top and finally the bottom Rail. After that, return the pistons and connecting rods to their original places.
