Update the engine oil at the indicated mileage and time intervals found in the instructions in the Owners Manual. Being in contact with engine oil, new or old, can be irritating for the skin, so reduce or limit how long your skin comes into contact with oil. Toxic particles in used engine oil may harm your health; immediately wash off any oil from your skin and do not use gasoline, diesel fuel, thinner or solvents to wash exposed skin. Properly recycle your engine oil and ask your nearest dealer or the government for directions to the nearest collection center. Run the engine to get it to its operating temperature, move it to a level surface and turn it off to replace the oil. Take out the oil filler cap, get the vehicle up on jack stands, unscrew the shield and remove it. Set a proper drain pan underneath the crankcase drain, loosen the drain plug and let the oil drain into the pan, always inspecting the threads of the drain plug; replace the drain plug and gasket if they are damaged. Completely remove the oil filter, after that add the drain plug and secure it with 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) of tightening. Fasten the lower splash shield to 7 Nm (5 ft. lbs.), take the vehicle off the stands and then use the right engine oil in the correct amount. Add a new oil filter, place the oil filler cap in its place and turn on the engine. After that, check for leaks. Switch off the motorcycle and look at the oil level. When disposing of engine oil after it has been drained, make sure to follow the usual recommendations.
