Chrysler Pacifica A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Expansion Valve on Chrysler Pacifica?
    A:
The first step in servicing or repairing the expansion valve is to recover the refrigerant from the system and take off the battery negative cable. Take out the air cleaner housing and disconnect the tube that drains to the wiper module on the right of the engine compartment. Separate the wire harness connector from the A/C pressure transducer that is right at the rear of the front liquid line, then take off the nut holding the suction and liquid line together on the expansion valve and separate the suction line. Break the seal at the end of the suction line fitting, then remove the bolt at the back of the liquid line attachment to the top of the filter-drier, undo the liquid line from both the filter-drier and the expansion valve and throw away the seals from the liquid line fittings. Over the liquid and suction line fittings, as well as the filter-drier outlet port and both expansion valve ports, put in plugs or use tape to cover them. Disconnect the harness from the top of the expansion valve, remove both screws holding it to the tapping plate and pull out the expansion valve. Remove the original seals from the evaporator inlet and outlet tube fittings, then put plugs or tape over these areas and the two open expansion valve ports. Remove the retainer and sensor from the expansion valve only if they get in the way. If the sensor was taken off, place the sensor and retainer over the expansion valve opening and then pull off the tape or plugs from the evaporator inlet and outlet tube fittings and both ports on the back of the expansion valve. Coat the new rubber O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and fit them onto the evaporator's inlet and outlet rubber tubes, looping the expansion valve onto each tube and checking that it lines up with the condensation pipe. Screw the two bolts connecting the expansion valve to the evaporator tube tapping plate tightly, to a torque of 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.), then plug the wire harness connector into the evaporator temperature sensor again. Remove all the tape and plugs from the liquid and suction line fittings, the filter-drier outlet and both expansion valve ports, put clean oil on new O-ring seals and use them to replace the old ones on the fittings. Attach the liquid line's fittings to the filter-drier outlet port and to the expansion valve and link the suction line fitting to the expansion valve as well. Hit the suction line and liquid line fittings on the expansion valve stud with 23 Nm of torque and tighten the bolt securing the liquid line fitting on the filter-drier to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Join the wire harness connector to the air conditioner pressure sensor, attach the drain tube to the wiper module, add the air cleaner housing and connect the battery negative cable again. Once all is in place, drain and charge the refrigerant system.
  • Q: How to Ensure Proper Functioning of an A/C Expansion Valve in a Chrysler Pacifica?
    A:
First, pump all the refrigerant out of the system and then take away the negative Battery Cable. After that, disconnect the housing of the air cleaner and the air inlet tube. After that, undo the bolt that holds the A/C liquid line onto the right front strut tower, then remove the bolt that holds the A/C liquid line and the A/C suction line to the A/C expansion valve. Take the A/C liquid and suction lines off the A/C expansion valve, throw away the O-rings and move the lines somewhere out of the way. Detach both bolts that join the A/C expansion valve to the evaporator tube tapping plate and pull the valve out. Pull the O-ring seals out of the evaporator tube fittings. It is important to install plugs or tape on or over the B-type fitting, C-type fitting, and expansion valve areas.
