Remaining the tops of the pistons with caps, lift the cylinder heads and
Oil Pan away and then use a ridge reamer to scrape off the upper parts of the cylinder bores. The pistons and connecting rods should be removed from above the cylinder block and the
Crankshaft adjusted so that the connecting rods are positioned correctly in their bore centers. Check the connecting rods and caps to see if they are from the same cylinder, adding marks if important. Take off the rod cap, cover the bolts with protectors and slowly push each piston and rod from the cylinder without scratching the crankshaft journals. After removing the bearing, install the cap of the bearing onto the mating rod. After checking, if the thread on any of the connecting rod bearing cap bolts does not contact a scale, replace them. Space the gaps in the compression rings so that no gap matches the oil ring rail gap and have the oil ring expander ends meet with those correct rail gaps. Place the piston head and rings in engine oil, use the ring compressor to install the rings on top and lock the compressor firmly in place with a special wrench to hold the rings in their right places. Add the upper bearing shell to the connecting rod and moisten it with clean engine oil. Add bolt protectors to the connecting rod bolts, shift the crankshaft to line up the rod's journal with the cylinder and place the rod and piston inside the cylinder, guiding the rod onto the crankshaft as you insert it. Place the arrow on the piston near the front of the engine and the oil squirt hole on the connecting rod should be on the side of the cylinder bore where the engine's power is ejected. Strike the piston with the back of a hammer handle as you pull the connecting rod into the journal. Set the lower bearing shell onto the connecting rod cap, smear lubricant on it and use oiled and cleaned bolts to screw on the rod cap. Measure the distance between the sides of the connecting rod and its bearings, then fasten the connecting rod nuts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) plus 1/4 turn. After that, install the cylinder heads and oil pan.
