- Q: Is Your Seat Belt Enough Protection After an Airbag Deployment on Chrysler Prowler?A:After an Air Bag deploys in a collision, you should immediately replace the front seat belts and their retractors with integral tensioners, in addition to the tensioning assembly. With front air bag deployment, the tensioner will do this simultaneously and must be swapped out. The bolts joining the seat belt retractor to the seat should be replaced after each installation, to avoid the seat latch pins not lining up properly. Review the shoulder/lap belt for rips, frayed parts or signs of wear and swap the retractor when required. The nut that keeps the seat back straight and that the center seat belt attaches to, needs to be properly tightened. Whenever there has been a frontal impact or the air bag went off, all seat belts should be checked for damage and those that show any wear must be replaced. Also, check Lower Anchors and Tether for Children (LATCH) child restraint anchors for any damage and replace them when necessary. During any child restraint anchor service, ensure all hardware, straps and anchors are set up properly and inspect for any damage; replacing a damaged child restraint anchor with the seat assembly helps avoid injury. Seat belt components should always be replaced, rather than attempted to be repaired. If replacement is needed for the front passenger Seat Cushion, on vehicles with the Occupant Classification System, the seat cushion must be replaced as a complete pack with the frame, springs, pad, seat weight bladder, pressure sensor, foam, wiring and a calibrated OCM. All the existing parts must be discarded and replaced together as a group and none should be split or reused. You should never change out both modules at once; if one of them needs to be replaced, verify the system and then replace the other to prevent loss of information in the calibration codes. Swapping them out at the same time will cause permanent faults in both modems.
