The Tie Rod End in Chrysler PT Cruiser vehicles is important for the steering system which connects the steering rack to the steering knuckles. This link is important in the stabilisation of vehicles and also in correcting the path that a vehicle will take. The assembly is made of inner as well as outer tie rod ends that allow the vehicles to respond appropriately to the kind of steering used. Although, the above general description does not indicate whether there are different types, or sub-types of Tie Rod Ends used in the different models of PT Cruiser, the purpose of the component remains the same. They managed to make the vehicle able to drive well and hence brought out how vital the Tie Rod End is in the performance of the vehicle. This component is mandatory for safety and proper functioning of a vehicle and therefore requires frequent check-ups.

Chrysler PT Cruiser Tie Rod End Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How Does the Tie Rod End Affect the Installation of a Travel Restrictor in Steering Gear Service on Chrysler PT Cruiser?
    A:
Make sure to use a travel restrictor that is both the same color and thickness as the original one, as the other side may have vary in thickness. First, place the travel restrictor on the inner tie rod ball joint so that the flat side of its teeth faces the car's side. Glue the inner tie rod's inboard threads with Mopar(R) Lock & Seal Adhesive or a thread locking adhesive of your choice. Thread the inner tie rod and the restrictor together through the steering gear. Make sure there is no grease left inside the socket before putting in Socket 10087-5. Put Slide Socket 10087-5 or a similar replacement inner tie rod tool onto the end of the inner tie rod and onto its ball and socket. Set Wrench 10087-2 over the inner tie rod and onto Socket 10087-5. Attach the square drive at the rear of Wrench 10087-2 to turn the inner tie rod to 78 Nm (58 ft. lbs.). First, secure a NEW transfer tube clamp around the transfer tube further along than the bellows mount and put a loose NEW clamp on the large end of the NEW bellows. Wrap the NEW bellows over the remaining part of the inner tie rod and gear body assembly, pass the bellows' small end over the groove and secure the final bellows segment with the clamp. A little Mopar(R) Lubriplate or its equivalent in the groove along the inner tie rod shaft will let you move the bolts for toe adjustments without twisting the bellows. Pull the small bellows handle until you feel it click into the groove in the tubing, then clamp a new clamp over that handle to attach to the transfer tube. Use crimping pliers to tighten the clamp holding the bellows firmly to the gear body. Next, insert the end of the tie rod jam nut onto the inner tie rod as far as possible so you can just install the outer tie rod end anytime you are ready.
