Chrysler Sebring A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Expansion Valve on Chrysler Sebring?
    A:
First, suck out the refrigerant from the refrigerant system to service and repair the expansion valve. Take out the bolt that bolts the refrigerant line retainer bracket to the right shock tower. Follow with the nut that bolts the refrigerant line tapping plate to the A/C expansion valve. Loose the connections from the A/C expansion valve to the suction line and to the liquid line and place the refrigerant lines out of your workspace. Get rid of the O-ring seal from both suction and liquid line fittings and cover the open end with plugs or tape. After that, take out the two bolts holding the A/C expansion valve to the evaporator tube tapping plate and disconnect the valve. Take out the O-ring seals from the evaporator tube fittings and put plugs or tape over all the openings on the evaporator and the expansion ports. To set it up, remove the tape or plugs you have put on the ends of the evaporator tube fittings and all the ports of the expansion valve. After cleaning the rubber O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil, fit them to the evaporator tube fittings using solely the proper O-ring made for the R-134a refrigerant system and oil recommended by your auto manufacturer for the A/C compressor. Set the expansion valve onto the tapping plate of the evaporator tube and bolt it in place using two bolts torqued to 11 N.m (97 in. lbs.). Pull out the tape or plugs from the suction and liquid line joints, grease the newly purchased O-ring seals using clean refrigerant oil and place them back on those linings, making sure you only use the appropriate seals. Connect the suction line and the liquid line to the A/C expansion valve, then fasten the refrigerant line plate using the nut to the expander with 23 N.m (17 ft. lb. of torque). Place the refrigerant line retainer bracket on the right shock tower and put in the bolt securely. Last, disconnect and switch on the refrigerant system.
